Remotes Regulatory Section

Remotes' electricity rates and services are regulated by the Ontario Energy Board (OEB), an independent provincial government agency that is responsible for overseeing the province's electricity and natural gas sectors and all its participants. Remotes' rate applications must be approved through a hearing process from the OEB in which they set the electricity rates and other charges.

Remotes' applications to the OEB, service documents, and licences are listed below. Additional information may be found on the OEB's website at www.oeb.ca, or by contacting Remotes at RemotesCustomerService@HydroOne.com or 1-888-825-8707.

Remotes' Conditions of Service describe the operating practices, connection policies, and the types of service available to the electricity customers within Remotes' service area.

This document includes information on account administration including rates and conditions, billing procedures and payment plan options, and references the regulations and codes that govern the services provided, including safety and inspection requirements as well as roles and responsibilities.

The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) allows three rate-setting options for electricity distributors: Price Cap Incentive Rate-setting (Price Cap IR), Custom Incentive Rate-setting (Custom IR), and Annual Incentive Rate-setting Index (Annual IR Index).

Remotes uses the Price Cap Incentive Rate-setting method to apply for rate approval. This method allows for rate rebasing every five years. In the rate rebasing year, Remotes submits a full Cost of Service application. In between Cost of Service applications, Remotes will apply for a mechanistic increase to electricity distribution rates and other charges (an IRM Application). The OEB examines the rate applications on behalf of the public interest.

Remotes' electricity scorecard, which is accompanied by management discussion and analysis to explain the scorecard, demonstrates how Remotes is performing each year relative to measures determined by the Ontario Energy Board (OEB): Customer Focus, Operational Effectiveness, Public Policy Responsiveness, and Financial Performance.

The Scorecard is designed to encourage electricity distributors to operate effectively, continually seek ways to improve productivity, and focus on improvements that their customers value.
