Neskantaga First Nation (Lansdowne House)
The Neskantaga Diesel Generating Station (DGS) has 3 Generators ranging from 725-1500 kW providing electrical power and distribution for the over 350 on-reserve residents of the remote, fly-in Ojibway speaking community located in Northern Ontario on beautiful Attawapiskat Lake.

DIESEL GENERATING STATION UPGRADE PROJECT
- One of the largest upgrades in Hydro One Remotes history!
- The 3-year project ended in July 2025 and had two parts – The Bulk Fuel Tank Upgrade and the Diesel Generator Upgrade.
- The Bulk Fuel Tank Upgrade replaced the original five 50,000 litre Bulk Fuel Tanks with seven –50,000 litre Bulk Fuel Tanks (+40% increase)!
- The Diesel Generator Upgrade increased the Diesel Generating Plant Rating –the maximumamount of electricity that can be generated -from 1000kW to 1625kW (+62% increase)!
- Replaced CAT C9 (275kW) generator with a new CAT 3516 (1500kW).
- New CAT 3516 generator weighs ~ 44,000lbs.
- Building expanded to support new generator.
- Total Weight shipped on the winter road for the project= 1,057,200 lbs. (480000 kg.) - 33 truckloads!
- New generator controls installed to improve station operation.
- 20 Hydro One Remotes staff worked on this project.
- Total Project Cost $10.7 million.
